I remember when I met my first pup. She was locked in someones cellar. No sunlight. I couldn't believe it even at 10 years old. I went home to my mother and begged her to let me take the dog home with us. Promised my mother I would feed her, do chores to pay for her and play with her everyday. My first pup was a black lab named Blacky (thats the best a 10 year old could do when in shock I guess). She lived for 15 years on our acreage and she saw me grow up until I left for university. I've had at least 2 dogs around me or to visit at the acreage for the last 21 years. Atleast 3 outdoor cats and 1 indoor as well for most years. I've always respected animals and went vegetarian/vegan in the last 4 years to improve my health. I understand the need for our ancestors to hunt and respect other peoples lifestyles though. For me I found a way to make this lifestyle work. I've taken care of cats and dogs and the occasional rodent my entire life either for my parents, sisters or brother. We all are animal lovers with big hearts. A little about me, I led a non profit student group for 10 years for the Make Poverty History campaign while I worked in the oilpatch to pay for my studies in philosophy, physics and social justice. At the moment I am making a career change and living off of savings to get into software and freelancing. Having a few furry friends to take me on a walk/run once and a while is an added benefit for the more flexible lifestyle I'm hoping to create.
